51% of Latina US teens are pregnant by the time they are twenty.

That's an interesting statistic.

Yes, at present, the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy estimates that 51% of Latinas get pregnant at least once by age 20.

However, what they fail to include in the statistic, is how many of these Latinas are married.

I feel that I am an expert on Latina teens (considering the majority of people I deal with in my profession are "Latin" teens), and I can tell you this; many are married before they leave high school and this is NOT necessarily due to pregnancy. It's just normal.

Several years ago, I had a ninth grade student, "Sandra" who was 16 years old and had three kids. All of which she had since she was married at the age of 13 in Mexico. Her husband was my age... about 28 at that time. She was an "A" student even though she missed a lot of school.

But, Sandra was a statistic... who just happened to be very successful at keeping both worlds happy -- her Mexican culture and family and the new American way of putting education first and getting a career. This was NOT without a lot of emotional pain and financial hardship... she had to put her babies in a day care center every day.

The Latin American culture centers on families and having babies. That is simply a fact. The sooner you start your family the better.... Sandra's family was not an anomaly, to the horror of soccer moms everywhere.

Something ironic: Liberals are always screaming about helping the various ethnic populations in our country to hang on to their culture; to embrace and celebrate their cultural heritage.

How else do you think we have come up with nonsense like "Kwanzaa"--- a made up holiday by a founder of the Black Power movement?

Yet, these same liberals are the first to try to force these ethnic groups into an American culture, an American viewpoint, American goals and American idea of success. Planned Parenthood will be coming to inner-city schools and telling the girls to get abortions and get a Depo shot and telling the guys "just use a condom".... "but whatever you do--- STAY IN SCHOOL and GET A CAREER!!!!!!!!!!!! Be a success!!!!! Don't be a statistic!" "Be a Super Girl".

For Latin American families, success is defined by your family... not by your job or going to college. By cramming down the importance of college and career into the minds of these kids, you are undoing everything that they value... you are encouraging the postponement or elimination of the family as they see it and the values their culture has handed down to them.

Liberals would like for ethnic minorities to "celebrate their culture" as long as that means food, dancing in pretty skirts, speaking in foreign tongues and listening to music. When the real core of their culture is expressed, then liberals call them "statistics" and wail, "what is our country going to do about these sobering statistics?"

The liberals can't get it. They never could.

Heck, even gangsters are an expression of multiculturalism as the new Mexican "gangster" attire are Catholic rosaries worn as necklaces, saints bracelets around their wrists, scapulars over their shoulders and the Virgin de Guadalupe on their t-shirt.

So when you hear about celebrating ethnic culture, just remember what that really means, and think about if you really want that to be a part of the new American culture which consists of a crazy pandering of certain glorified culturalisms and the smattering of social debris that is left when the cultures collide with statistics.
